Dear Shipmate,
Nice to hear from you. This note provides some basic info
about
the Association.
The VP-2 Association is
organized and operated primarily to further comradeship among
our VP-2
shipmates, to honor the memory of all military veterans and
particularly those
who gave their lives in service to their country, to encourage
patriotism, and
to honor the sacrifices of military wives and families who
support
their loved
ones in military service. The
principal
activity of the Association is a biannual reunion, first held in
1984
at Oak
Harbor. The
reunion with the largest attendance was held in September 2006
at the Skagit Valley
Casino Resort just north of Mount Vernon, WA. This was the
facility that could provide for the 300+ that attended the
reunion in conjunction with the Whidbey Patrol Squadron Memorial
dedication.
The Patrol Squadron Two Association was the principal sponsor,
organizer and executive for the construction of this Memorial at
the
Veterans Memorial Park on SE Pioneer Way in Oak Harbor. The the 2012 reunion in Fort Worth,
Texas a donation
of more than $50000.00 was made to the National Naval Aviation
Museum
in Pensacola to establish an endowment for the continuing
preservation
and maintnance of the Truculent Turtle. A very successful
reunion was held in San Diego in mid October of
2018, with the next gathering to be held in Jacksonville FL in
2020.
